Chinese company Xiaomi is making a phone with real gold, the Redmi K20 Pro Signature edition. Actually, the company’s budget smartphone K20 Pro is wrapped with gold and diamonds, while other features of the phone are being kept the same.
The Redmi K20 Pro Signature Edition is the same as the standard K20 Pro. The specs and the features are as same as the regular version. This means that the Redmi K20 Pro Signature Edition comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, AMOLED display, 20MP pop-up selfie camera, AI-based triple rear cameras, 4000mAh battery with 27W fast charging support, Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 on top.
Looking at the display part, it may seem like a typical mid-range smartphone. But when you look at the back of the phone, you will realize that this is not an ordinary smartphone. The entire back panel is made of gold and the name of the model written with the diamond.
Manu Kumar Jain (CEO Xiaomi India) said that “the limited edition phone will be priced at ₹1.5 lakh. He added, only 20 gold phones will be made by the company. The phone’s back panel will be made of about 5 grams of gold. Only two phones have been made so far. But it has not yet been decided whether the phone will be sold or given as a gift,” he said. However, he did not rule out the possibility of auctioning the phones. The company is considering donating the money collected at the auction to social work.
The Xiaomi official said many people have been interested in buying the phone since the phone went public. Many have even requested to write their own initials with diamonds in place of K20 in exchange for more money. However, the company is still thinking about it.
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro in India. Therefore, the company decided to make 20 gold phones as a strategy to promote the phone. This signature edition gold phone will only be available in India.
